MSI Supporters & Funders

MSI is grateful to Senator and Mrs. Ben “Nighthorse” Campbell for embracing the vision of MSI and the potential contribution of the Institute to Silverton and the region. Without Campbell’s diligent work on Capitol Hill, MSI would not have received much-needed seed money that enabled it to get off the ground, and would not be around today. In 2003 Congress awarded $500,000 to MSI, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Through Forestry program. A second grant of $500,000 was awarded in the federal 2004 budget. A portion of these funds were sub-granted to two of MSI's "sister" organizations in Silverton, the San Juan Historical Society and the Center for Snow & Avalanche Studies. Since receiving this start-up support, MSI has raised funds from a diversity of sources.

MSI wishes to acknowledge the individuals and institutions whose cash and in-kind donations sustain the Mountain Studies Institute. MSI enjoys 100 % financial participation from its board of directors. Apologies in advance if your name or organization should appear here and it does not. Please let us know. Thanks for your generosity!
