MSI sponsors seminars and field trips by researchers and practitioners on a variety of topics ranging from climate change to historic preservation. These talks are designed to be on the low-tech side and are free to the public.

In general, summer seminars are held at MSI's Historic Avon Hotel at 144 E. 10 th Street in Silverton, Colorado . Seminars during fall, winter, and spring are usually held at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado .
