Instrumented Watershed

A micro-met station in Senator Beck Basin

The Center for Snow and Avalanches Studies (CSAS), a partner organization also based in Silverton, has instrumented the Senator Beck Basin on Red Mountain Pass and is involved with an NSF-funded study of the effects of desert dust on radiative and hydrologic processes of mountain snow pack. MSI is collaborating with CSAS to plan additional projects that take advantage of the existing meteorological and hydrological infrastructure.

Research Permitting

MSI offers visiting scientists the opportunity to include their no or low-impact projects on our group permit with the San Juan Public Lands (USFS and BLM).
