THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12th: Stakeholder – Scientist Dialogue

This day will bring scientists together with local stakeholders from the region including natural resource managers, elected officials, community planners, energy industry representatives, conservationists, farmers and ranchers, recreation and tourism professionals, community leaders, concerned citizens, students, and other local stakeholders for stakeholder and scientist presentations on how climate affects water supply, snow, air quality, forest health, wildfire, recreation, tourism, agriculture, ranching, energy, biodiversity and more. The Dialogue will provide a unique opportunity to collaboratively identify regional information and research needs related to climate change.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13th: Silverton Research Site Tour & Renewable Energy Resources Discussion with Congressman John Salazar

9:00 am - 2:00 pm: Senator Beck Basin on Red Mountain Pass and the Historic Avon Hotel
Carpool & Hike into into Swamp Angel study area, an instrumented watershed managed by the Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies. Discuss historic research program of University of Colorado’s Institute for Alpine and Arctic Research (INSTAAR), current snow and terrestrial (non-snow related) research being conducted by MSI, CSAS and affiliated scientists in the San Juans. Return to Silverton for lunch and tour of MSI’s headquarters at the historic Avon Hotel. Meet at the Avon (144 East 10th Street) at 9:00 a.m.

3:00 - 4:00 pm: Healthy Forests, Renewable Energy and Utilization of our Forest Products:
The Future of Renewable Energy Resources in Southern Colorado -- Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Public Reception with Congressman John Salazar 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Avon Hotel.

6:00 pm: Climate Change in the San Juan Mountains: Climate Change Affects Us All!
Introduction to the Issues with Koren Nydick, Director of Research and
Education - Mountain Studies Institute. Avon Hotel, (food and drink will be served).

7:00 pm: AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH (Running Time: 1 hour, 40 minutes) A film by former
Vice-President Al Gore about global warming, the myths and misconceptions
that surround it, and his crusade to halt it's deadly progress in its
tracks. A discussion about the film, global warming, and what we can do
locally, will follow the movie.  Avon Hotel
