WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11th:
Research Sharing & Program Development Overview:

This day will bring together scientists from academia, government research institutions, and natural resource management agencies to initiate planning of the San Juan Mountain Climate Initiative.
THE GOALS:

  1. Share climate-related research in the San Juan Mountains and adjacent regions.
  2. Identify research gaps from the scientist perspective, keeping in mind likely stakeholder needs.
  3. Define and describe a research program and specific projects to fill these gaps.
  4. Identify scientists to undertake such projects and potential funders to finance the work.

THE ASSIGNMENT:

Scientists are asked to think about the above goals and prepare to discuss these issues. Some scientists will prepare talks about their own and their colleagues’ research or ideas for future studies. All participants are encouraged to bring posters to display to scientists and stakeholders.

THE PRODUCT:

The proceedings for the two-day conference will include a summary of presentations and breakout group discussions. It will also include a draft San Juan Mountain Climate Initiative “Plan for Action”, including: (1) identified data, communication, and outreach gaps, (2) potential research, applied projects, and outreach to fill these gaps, and (3) suggestions for partners and funding.
