The Silverton Avalanche School

Since 1962 the Silverton Avalanche School has educated skiers, snowboarders, snowmobilers, ski patrollers, Department of Transportation employees, Search and Rescue personnel, and law enforcement officers about the hazards of avalanches. this site contains schedules, prices, philosophy and more.

Colorado Avalanche Information Center

The CAIC promotes safety by reducing the impact of avalanches on recreation, industry, and transportation in the State through a program of forecasting and education. The CAIC is a program within the Colorado Geological Survey. This site allows you to the latest mountain weather, snow and avalanche conditions for the San Juan Mountains.

Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies

The Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies enhances the interdisciplinary investigation of the alpine snow system's behavior and role in human/environment relationships by offering resources - people, information, and facilities - for field-based research and education.

Avalanche Mapping Website

This site is set up so that users with basic avalanche training and intermediate computer skills can download GIS and avalanche snowpit data and print maps from ArcExplorer (a free GIS data viewer form ERSI). There are maps from a variety of locations around Colorado.

American Avalanche Association

The American Avalanche Association (AAA) is comprised of a collective group of dedicated professionals engaged in the study, forecasting, control and mitigation of snow avalanches. Association membership includes qualified researchers, professional avalanche forecasters, snow safety officers, snow rangers and qualified ski patrollers, technicians and specialists.
