Lodging
Come stay at the MOUNTAIN HOUSE - MSI’s lodging facility located in the heart of Silverton!
The Mountain House is a perfect home base for a variety of pursuits in the San Juan Mountains - summer or winter.
MSI has provided affordable lodging for education, research and non-profit users since September 2004. We frequently host graduate students, university professors, geology field camps, professional retreats, and many others. If you think our Mountain House facility may meet the needs of your group, please contact us for rates and availability.
The Mountain House sleeps 12 in a mixture of dorm and private rooms. For larger groups, MSI arranges for additional sleeping space at the nearby locations (hostel, cabins, rental homes). The facility includes a full kitchen, gas grill, wireless internet, and plenty of space for informal gatherings both inside and in the beautiful backyard. There is also a large multi-purpose room, complete with tables and folding chairs, that can be used for gatherings of any kind (meetings, presentations, yoga).
MSI Americorps Vista volunteer, Whitney Gaskill, conducts a PikaNet training in the multi-purpose room at the Mountain House.
Specific sleeping arrangements:
The second floor has two bunk rooms, each with a private bath and large closet. One room sleeps four adults (2 bunk beds); the other sleeps three adults.
The third floor is an open loft and sleeps five adults in twin beds. The bathroom and stairwell divide the third floor, allowing it to be two separate rooms (one with three twin beds, one with two twin beds).
Users should bring their own sleeping bags; pillows and fitted sheets are provided.
