Application Deadline April 30, 2010

Interns gain knowledge, experience, and friends . . . and have fun!
This paid 10-week career-building internship program offers an outstanding opportunity to learn from professionals in the field, build skills, and gain networking contacts - all while living and working in a beautiful place. Each student will be placed with a natural resource scientist or manager for 9.5 week field experience/internship. Students will learn methods used by natural resource professionals and community planners in the field and office and be responsible for contributing to real-world projects. About 30% of past interns have been offered employment by mentoring agencies as a result of their field experience. Due to the many logistics and planning requirements of this program, participation requires cooperation and a spirit of adventure.
Interns receive $2,000 over 10 weeks; mileage reimbursment for travel to program events; and most interns are provided housing.

The University of Colorado at Boulder, Fort Lewis College, Mountain Studies Institute, and the San Juan Public Land Center (USFS/BLM) are members of a new collaborative effort for integrated, interdisciplinary studies and education on the Western Slope of Colorado. Together, we develop multi-disciplinary, problem-oriented research and outreach efforts to serve rural Southwestern Colorado. We establish on-site learning opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels by building bridges between educational institutions and community groups.
