Chattanooga Fen Revegetation - Celebrate National Public Lands Day!

Chattanooga Fen - North of Silverton

Come and celebrate National Public Lands Day with a service project for fen restoration! We will be doing re-vegetation of Chattanooga Fen.

Meet at 9 am at Animas City Park in Durango to carpool to Silverton. Please bring lunch, water, sunscreen, hat, layers, everything you need for a day in the mountains! Don’t forget your rubber boots!

Fens in the San Juan Mountains have accumulated up to three meters of peat and most are thousands of years old. These ancient wetlands store carbon, filter pollutants from water, and support biodiversity, including rare species. Our fen project is an integral piece of mountain wetland monitoring and we need your help; join us to restore these critical ecosystems and learn more about them during a day out in the mountains!
