Mark Garcia

Mark Garcia calls Pagosa Springs home and has played in the south San Juan’s with his family since 1994. Mark is originally from Santa Fe, NM, and has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UNM. The last 28 years have occupied Mark’s time with work in the local government sector where he has assisted our communities with growth and changing demographics. Mark has been a Town Manager for Pagosa Springs, Ignacio, Silverton, Ouray, Monte Vista, Center and Antonito, with most gigs being short interim stints needed during transitions or changes within the communities and organizations. Preserving and enhancing the critical quality of life, services and attributes within our communities has been his goal. Being a town manager requires leadership, vision and an ability to work with staff and community on critical objectives, and Mark hopes to share his skills and attributes with MSI.

Service on the MSI Board is an endeavor where Mark hopes to help connect the critical work and information gleaned by MSI staff and programs to our local communities who are dealing with numerous environmental and economic challenges. Forest degradation, wildfire, water quality, drought, climate change and increased recreational use and demand are just a few of these challenges. Mark has skied, biked, hiked, hunted and fished much of the San Juan’s and seen firsthand these changes in the past three decades. The San Juan Mountains are under a lot of stress and ideally the MSI team can help support the changing environment and connected communities.
