Mining Solutions Bootcamp: December 1-10th

Bootcamp Selects Startups to Pioneer Mining Solutions

Solving the West’s most pressing problems in water pollution and mining reclamation

Virtual Event, December 1-10, 2020: Mountain Studies Institute (MSI) and Telluride Venture Accelerator (TVA) are partnering with Newmont Corporation for a seven-day bootcamp catered towards startups focused on solving problems in water pollution and degraded mine lands, and innovative cleantech.

The bootcamp will bring together 4-6 cutting edge companies for high-impact mentoring, strategic coaching, and networking with industry experts and investors. The focus is specifically on startups operating in the intersection of water quality, reclamation, and mining industry. It is open to companies addressing all aspects of reclamation, water treatment, monitoring, remote sensing and communication, and economic cost-recovery through secondary products, recovery of metals, and/or repurpose of byproducts.

“This is an amazing opportunity to combine the industry experience of Newmont Corp and the mentors of Telluride Venture Accelerator to drive real change in reclamation and mining,” said Jesse Jackson, co-founder of TVA and managing director of Helios Capital Ventures. MSI and TVA seek partners who are equipped to make a global impact in mining communities through innovative, shovel-ready businesses.

Many of the industries that currently address mining and reclamation issues are facing dramatic changes due to the growth of innovative businesses and expansion of research initiatives. This wave of new solutions creates massive potential for startups to find mentors that will help their ideas become successful solutions and businesses.

The bootcamp is sponsored by Newmont Corporation, the world’s leading gold miner and a fixture at the top of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. “Newmont is committed to long-term sustainable management of our active and historic mining operations. With that goal in mind, we are always striving to identify and develop new and innovative solutions to advance responsible mine management at both our operational and our legacy sites,” said Devon Horntvedt, Director of Colorado Legacy Site Management for Newmont.

The schedule features a content session in the mornings, informal lunches, and networking and mentor meetings in the afternoons. MSI and TVA recognize the need for founders to keep working in their businesses and therefore are no sessions 12/5 through 12/7. The deadline for applications is October 31, 2020. Click here to apply and for more information.
