San Juan Resilience Youth Summit

Theme: Preparing and Responding to Wildfire

Investigations of the linkages between wildfire, forest conditions, watershed health, and air quality were broken down as follows:

  1. Forest health: (Forest density and condition, Bark beetles, Fuel mitigation, fire risk, and fire ecology)

  2. Watershed health: (Habitat suitability for trout and other cold-water fishes, Benthic macroinvertebrate community, and Abiotic indicators of stream health)

  3. Air quality: (Data collection from “Purple Air” and other air quality monitoring stations and Data search of air quality impacts from prescribed fires vs wildfire)

Each module was comprised of various elements for field investigation, which was arranged based on age and interest of each class.
