The San Juan Resilience Youth Summit (SJRYS) is modeled after professional scientific research summits and geared specifically for middle and high school students in the San Juan Mountain communities. It is a free "science fair-like" gathering for students to come together and share their projects on any environmental topic that they choose to investigate. Students are provided an opportunity to share their work with, and learn from, an authentic audience of peers, natural resource professionals, and community leaders. The summit is a perfect venue to enhance public speaking skills and get exposure to higher education and career opportunities. The theme of this year’s summit will be Resilience.

Students are invited to join the Summit as presenters or participants. Teachers are invited to get their whole class involved. Email Jewell@mountainstudies.org with any questions.

Student Participation Options:

  • Attend as a Participant (no project needed)

  • Prepare a presentation (5 minute max + 5 minutes for Q&A) for a breakout-room audience. Presentations can be powerpoint, poster, video, podcast, a skit or song, etc. We encourage students to get creative in how they present their work.

  • Present their work in poster format to a circulating audience in an unstructured, conversational format.

For questions or to discuss how you or your class might be involved in the Summit, please email Jewell Coleman at jewell@mountainstudies.org or Brookelynn Pitsch at brooke@mountainstudies.org
